“I’m Callie Chafe.”
An uncomfortable feeling
High school can cause people to feel many emotions, including anxiety, intimidation, or fear. Callie experienced these feelings and felt that there had to be another option.
“Growing up in high school was really difficult,” shares Callie. “I had a lot of anxiety going through school.”
Making the best decision for her family
There are many reasons why someone may not finish high school – such as caring for a child or a loved one. Callie chose to make the decision that was best for her family.
“Having a kid really young really put boundaries on me, and a lot of schools didn’t actually want to accept me,” recalls Callie. “Then someone said go to the Discovery Centre.”
Encouragement to keep going
The motivation and encouragement from the staff at the Discovery Centre truly helped Callie in finding her path. The staff recognizes the potential within everyone and tries their best to help you achieve it.
“They want to see you become who you want to be,” smiles Callie. “They’re just trying to help me and push me through life – because sometimes you need a push.”
Student or Instructor?
Callie is a student at the Discovery Centre and is proud to demonstrate to her son that the sky’s the limit when you set your mind to something.
“The teachers here aren’t just teachers. They’re our mentors, they’re our friends,” says Callie. “They’re just regular normal people just trying to help you with your education.”
