Who is eligible to receive full-time sponsorship?
Students could be eligible for sponsorship if:
- They are currently on income support.
- They have been recipients of Employment Insurance in the last ten years, or are currently taking advantage of some other government programs.
- If you do not qualify for full-time sponsorship or are currently working, there are part-time evening classes that are free for most students.

How long does it take to complete ABE?
The time it takes to complete ABE varies depending on the number of credits you need for graduation and your schedule. We offer night classes and you might qualify for credits based on your work or life experience.
What if I am already a high school graduate and only need to upgrade?
You can enroll in the ABE program and upgrade your academic subjects and/or skill levels. You can upgrade for one or multiple subject/skill areas to improve your marks for college or university enrollment minimums. All academic Math, Science and English subjects are available.
What if I am from outside the province of Newfoundland & Labrador?
If you are from outside Newfoundland and Labrador, students must submit a transcript for transfer into the ABE program. We can help you get the information you need, call us today.
What if I need fewer than six credits on my high school transcript?
You may qualify to transfer ABE credits to meet high school graduation requirements. We will handle everything you need from the Department of Education to determine if this is possible.
How do I apply to enroll at the Discovery Centre?
We don’t do applications! At the Discovery Centre we have an initial interview process for enrollment. Contact one of our campuses for more information or if you would like to set up an appointment.
How is the ABE program taught at the Discovery Centre?
The ABE program is delivered using these two teaching methods:
General Classroom – A self-paced environment, where students work on individualized programs with the guidance and support of the instructors.
Lecture Class – Teacher-led, offered on an on-demand basis.
What are the class schedules?
The Discovery Centre is open year-round. Classes usually run from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but may vary by campus.
Evening classes in St. John’s are Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.

What is the cost to attend the program?
Is there a waitlist for the ABE program?
Students can start the program at anytime. We have continuous intake, meaning there are no set start dates and no waitlists.
