“I’m Jennifer Murrin.”
The realities that we face
Leaving high school is never an easy decision. There are so many factors to consider, including family, emotional capabilities, and work commitments. Growing up in a small town on the west coast of Newfoundland, Jennifer certainly faced the realities of life.
“There’s a multitude of reasons why an individual might not finish high school the first time around,” recalls Jennifer. “It could be a lack of confidence in themselves, it could be a lack of motivation, or even a lack of support.”
Finding the confidence to reach your goals
Intimidation and fear are very common feelings when you consider returning to school – no matter your age. The small class sizes you experience at the Discovery Centre will allow you to grow more confidence within yourself and develop meaningful relationships with your classmates.
“The biggest challenge that a lot of individuals face is the initial decision to make that change and to actually go back to high school and obtain their high school education,” shares Jennifer.
Working as a team to overcome obstacles
Once you realize that all of your classmates are seeking the same goal, your educational journey becomes easier than ever. You can bond over past experiences and move forward as a team to achieve your education with support – something you would not experience under the pressure of regular high school.
“We’re all adults here,” smiles Jennifer. “We can share stories, we can relate to each other, and I think that’s what makes Discovery Centre so different!”
Student or Instructor?
Jennifer is an instructor at Discovery Centre, and is focused on helping her students as they achieve their own definition of success.
“We’re so much more than teachers here at the Discovery Centre,” says Jennifer. “We’re mentors, tutors, facilitators. But most importantly, we’re people who genuinely care about and who want to be part of your success.”
