“I’m Kevin Knox.”
Losing interest
Everyone experiences high school a little differently. Some students feel overwhelmed, some students feel like they don’t belong, and other students have a lack of interest. Growing up in Kilbride provided other opportunities for Kevin.
“I was just not really interested in high school when I was a little younger,” recalls Kevin. “I would just hang out a little later and not do my credits.”
Making a decision
Kevin’s decision to return to school came with time, as he realized that he needed to make a change in order to feel better about himself. The staff at the Discovery Centre made this transition easy, which allowed for a comfortable place to work on his high school education.
“I was a little nervous. I know it was an adult school and I’m a younger adult,” says Kevin. “But high school is more relaxed here. You can talk to the teachers more and we are all adults.”
Achieving success together
The support provided at the Discovery Centre helped him realize that it’s not like regular school. Adults have opportunities to work together to reach success, and the students help motivate each other to achieve their goals and education.
“Support means everything,” shares Kevin. “If we are all in an environment where we all need to get somewhere, we will get there together!”
Student or Instructor?
Kevin is a student at the Discovery Centre and is excited to be a role model for those who have left school and are seeking a reason to return.
“What makes the Discovery Centre different is the one-on-one attention that you get,” smiles Kevin. “They are more than teachers here. They are mentors, they are coaches, they are guides. They are more than what a regular teacher is.”
