We started the Discovery Centre almost 30 years ago to help adult learners across our province. Since then, thousands of our graduates have found better jobs and brighter futures!
Maybe you’re thinking about taking the first step to finish high school this fall yourself.
Maybe you were listening to the radio in your car and heard one of our incredible instructors talk about how you can start anytime, at any of our locations — day or night — and work with a team that’s there to support your success..
Or maybe you were scrolling through Facebook or Instagram and came across one of our posts featuring a past graduate, Michelle. She finished high school with the Discovery Centre and she’s been an inspiration to thousands ever since.
Michelle’s Story
A few years ago, Michelle shared her story about how she went back to finish high school.
As someone living with learning disabilities, Michelle knew that going back to school would be hard — but she also knew that with the right support she’d be ready to take on the challenge.
Michelle put in the work — and the payoff was worth it.
The days of worrying about not being able to do everyday tasks like filling out forms for her children are behind her now. By finishing high school as an adult, she created a new future full of possibilities and opportunity. “I’m truly writing my next chapter,” said Michelle.
Inspiring the Online Community
By sharing her story, not only did Michelle become an inspiration to her family and friends, but to the community as well.
Still today, we get notifications on our Facebook page regularly about what a big impact Michelle’s story has had on so many people.
From people thinking about finishing high school to recent graduates, past staff and more, everyone has been sending their well-wishes and sharing how the Discovery Centre has changed their lives for the better too.
We reached out to Michelle to say hello and let her know what a big impact her story has had on others. Here’s what she had to say:
“I love sharing my story about going back to finish high school.
Throughout my entire school experience, I’ve needed a little more help than others but that’s not a bad thing. I couldn’t excel in that environment but the Discovery Centre made that happen for me.
Going back to finish high school changed my life. When I first started, I was happy, excited, and sad. I waited so long to go back to high school, but I was so ready to do it. The staff at the Discovery Centre were so supportive and made me feel like I had everything I needed within myself to be able to do it. I needed 25 credits and I accomplished every single one of them. Even if you think you have no support before you enter, once you start, the environment created there and the wonderful long term friends that I now call my family for life will carry you through.
And when you finish, you’re going to look back on it and realize — you did that, and look how proud everyone is of you. You did it!
Today, I’m so proud to say that I have a career I love, I’m confident, and I wouldn’t change my story for the world.”
