Who is eligible to receive full-time sponsorship?
Our programs are free for most students. You may be eligible if:
- You are currently on income support.
- You are currently receiving EI benefits; have previously qualified for EI benefits in any of the past 5 years or contributed EI premiums in 5 of the last 10 years; or are currently taking advantage of some other government programs.
- If you don’t qualify for full-time sponsorship or are currently working, there are part-time evening classes that are free for most students.

How long does it take to finish high school?
That depends on the number of credits you need and whether you study full-time or part-time.
What if I already graduated high school and just want to upgrade?
Many students do our programs to improve their marks, especially if they’re applying for college or university and need a minimum grade.
What if my credits are from outside of Newfoundland & Labrador?
If your credits are from outside the province, you need to get your credits transferred. We can help you get the information you need.
What if I need less than six credits on my high school transcript?
You may qualify to transfer ABE credits to meet high school graduation requirements. We will handle everything you need from the Department of Education to determine if this is possible.

How are your programs formatted?
Our programs are self-paced, so you’ll work on individualized programs with guidance and support from your instructors.
What’s the class schedule like?
- We’re open year-round.
- Classes usually run Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but may vary by campus.
- St. John’s evening classes are Monday and Wednesday, 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.
How much does it cost?
- You may qualify for funding to cover some or all of the costs of finishing high school.
- Some part-time evening classes are free.

Is there a waitlist for the ABE program?
- No, there’s no waitlist.
